Chamber Furnace

Chamber Furnace

A chamber furnace is a batch-type industrial furnace in which the material to be treated is loaded into a heated chamber. It is one of the standard solutions in industrial heat treatment and is particularly well-suited for processes involving varying quantities, component sizes, or recipes. At Demig, intelligent process controllers in combination with the modular Prosys process control system ensure reproducible and energy-efficient process control.

Design and Applications

A chamber furnace consists of a thermally insulated enclosure with one or more doors and a heating element inside. The workpiece is placed directly into the chamber or positioned on batch carriers. The advantage: flexibility in batch sizes and process times—ideal for high-variety production or high-quality individual parts.

Typical applications include:

  • Hardening and tempering of tool and heat-treatable steels
  • Annealing for stress relief or microstructural homogenization
  • Drying processes in coating or pretreatment

Chamber furnaces are used in numerous industries—from automotive supply to aerospace engineering and contract hardening.

Control with process controllers and process control systems

Demig equips chamber furnaces, for example, with high-precision process controllers from the DE-CP 3XX and DE-CP 5XX series. These enable precise temperature control across multiple zones, controlled dwell time regulation, and flexible management of different recipes.

The Prosys process control system offers the following:

  • Real-time visualization of the current process status
  • Recipe management with automated parameterization
  • Batch-based archiving for quality assurance

This combination enables even smaller furnace systems to be documented in compliance with standards and integrated into digital production structures—including connectivity to MES or ERP systems.

Practical Benefits and Advantages for Production

Chamber furnaces with intelligent control and process management systems offer numerous advantages in industrial practice. Flexible loading allows for quick changeovers and customized process control. At the same time, automated processes ensure high reproducibility and process reliability—even with complex temperature profiles.

The comprehensive recording and analysis of all process data via Prosys facilitates audits, traceability, and continuous optimization. In addition, chamber furnaces are particularly easy to retrofit: Existing systems can be easily digitized and brought up to date by replacing the control technology—with manageable effort and clearly measurable benefits.

Conclusion

The chamber furnace is a proven solution for a wide range of heat treatment tasks. When combined with precise process controllers and Demig’s powerful Prosys process control system, the result is a future-proof integrated system: cost-effective, documentable, and networked—ideal for quality-oriented, digitally controlled manufacturing.
